Differences Between Anime and Manga

As expected, there are a lot of differences between the manga and anime versions of this arc. Especially considering it features the Sailor Quartet, who never were Sailor Senshi in the anime!!

Since the anime never established the Amazoness Quartet as Senshi, the first few episodes play out very differently from the first chapter of the manga. In the anime, Chibi Usa arrives on Ceres alone and has to awaken the Quartet's reincarnations. But in the manga, they're there the whole time! They had actually been sent to Ceres ahead of Chibi Usa, and she meets up with them upon arrival.

This means that none of the scenes where Chibi Usa has to hide her identity from her friends happened in the manga, either.

When Hotaru visits Chibi Usa, in the manga, they don't spend time with the Quartet, but rather just the two of them. The visit is portrayed much more romantically. Likewise, when they visit Helios, he kisses Chibi Usa before she leaves. The anime seems to be toning down the romance overall. Maybe the producers don't like the fact that Chibi Usa has two partners? After all, in previous seasons they really tried to avoid the topic of Usagi's raging bisexuality...

In the manga, when Rhea tells Chibi Usa about how she was able to reach out because the Moon and Earth had a daughter, she specifies that their union was why Chibi Usa specifically became Sailor Sun, but that the reason why the Sun Sailor Crystal came back at all was because of what Usagi did in the Galaxy Cauldron at the end of the Stars arc.

Also, Sailor Phaethon's end was a little more brutal. She accepted that she would have to die, but Chibi Usa was forced to have to use her Pink Sun Crystal to vaporize her. She died with a smile, though, so she was okay with it.
